Thomas wakes up in an elevator in the Glade, the center of an enormous mysterious maze, surrounded by only teenage boys. The next day the first ever girl arrives in the Glade with an ominous message about all their fates. Sounds intriguing right? Well, it could have been. It should have been. But, it just wasn't for me. I struggled getting through this book and almost gave up on it all together. I am glad I finished it, as the ending was quite interesting. My main problem with The Maze Runner were the characters. I could not get invested in any of them. Thomas was dull, at best, throughout most of the book. Very few showed much personality and some were plain annoying. Minho and Newt were by far my favorites but I don't find myself really caring too much about what comes next for them ~ which is normally what keeps me reading a series. I love the idea of this book but I think it was written for young(ish) boys, and that just is not what I am.
